Hi Kurtis,
I am enjoying your epic podcast. I am an omnibus collector for the past few years and I am thinking about switching to the epic line instead.
I do have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with.
First, how durable are the epic collection books? I have seen some posts stating that the pages may yellow over time, have you noticed any of this?
Living in Canada, the cost of the omnibus are just too much. Per comic it seems the cost is half the price for the epic line.
Thanks,
Mike
Hi Mike, glad to answer questions for you.
There are 250 different Epics and they are all printed by several different printers over several years, so I can’t make any blanket statement like “They are very durable” because it really all depends on the printer. There were six Epics printed in 2018 by a printer called Quad Graphix and they were terrible quality. Very little glue and some reports of pages falling out. However, these are outliers and majority of them are just fine. The cover stock has a really nice flex and doesn’t crease when the book is fully open.
This is the same case with the yellowing paper. Many of the earlier released volumes had a really nice paper stock. I think it was uncoated and therefore it was prone to yellowing. It isn’t bad but it bugs some a great deal. The more recent printers have used paper that is slightly slicker and that coating seem to have prevented yellowing.
I’m in Canada too and those Omnis are very expensive due to the exchange rate. Epics are more affordable for sure, but they are upping the price this year. Looks like Epics will be between $55-65 CAD. 🙁
Hope this helps!
